Kittel Looking Fine For Scheldeprijs
German sprint great Kittel (Marcel) is all geared up to come up with a good fight & defend the title at the Scheldeprijs race this week. His participation in the upcoming race would mark his long-awaited return in the pro cycling field post his illness.
Maecel has been absent from the competition for more than a month now. He last raced at the Qatar Tour in the month of February. His team Giant-Alpecin informed that the German rider is down with a virus attack.
“I do not know about the exact type of virus & honestly I do not feel that our doctor too knew about it but it came with a fever & he was very sick for few days”, stated Rudi Kemna, the head coach from Marcel’s team.
“Post the race, Marcel had a bad feeling with his body & power”, added the coach. “We did not want Marcel to get back too fast. It is better to come when you can actually feel good & it is looking good now.”
The renowned Flanders classic is one of the most coveted races for the sprinters such as 3-time champ Mark Cavendish, Marcel Kittel, Alexander Kristoff and Andre Greipel. Ironically, the Etixx-QuickStep rider Cavendish has not been included on the start-list of riders for this race.
The race organizers have confirmed that Cav won’t be contending in the race.
“Cav is one a 2-week off’, stated one of the spokesmen from the race organization committee.
The 8-time Tour France stage champion got back on training a couple of weeks back.
“It will push his level pretty up & it is going well now”, added Kemna.
“It is not perfect as the trainer said but he is feeling well.”
Marcel won Scheldeprijs for 3rd time on a row last year.
